Hit ‘Em Again, Harder. April 19.

There is a strategy used both in sport and in war that says once a force has landed a blow against an opponent, quickly land a second, harder than the first. The concept is that giving the enemy time to regroup, rest up, and prepare works against the offensive. Multiple strikes, down after down, assault after assault, wears out the opponent faster, making it easier to win the game.

We are at that point. The protests this past Saturday sent a strong message around the Capitol. We’re hear, and we’re going to be heard, like it or not. Already, we’re seeing some Republican members of Congress beginning to back down. They’ve joined with Democrats to back a bill currently in the Senate that would limit the President’s tariff authority. The President, being the pompous jackass that he is, promptly said he would veto such a bill, but as the market continues downward and more people begin to feel the pinch caused by the policies of this administration, Congress might well have the votes to override that veto.

What we need is another protest. A protest with 3.5 million people involved. We came damn close to that number this past Saturday. Yet, it is going to take continuing protests with growing numbers of people to convince legislators to stand up and protect the Constitution.

50501 (which stands for 50 protests, in 50 states, on one day) is the organization that originated the Hands Off protest this past Saturday. Now, they’re calling for a second, stronger, louder protest on April 19. The strategy makes sense. As the cheerleaders once screamed from the sidelines, “Hit ’em again! Hit ’em again! Harder! Harder!”

Details are still sketchy, but are developing, again, on Reddit and other social media platforms. Those wishing to participate or help organize a protest can sign up on the 50501 website. The organization emphasizes that protests must be peaceful in order to protect the lives of everyone involved. We don’t need to give the government any excuse to exercise the use of force against protesters.

In the meantime, keep the pressure up especially through calling your representatives and posting creative signs on social media. It may not seem like much, especially if you don’t get a lot of ‘likes’ on a post, but every call, every meme, every comment you make matters.

This is a critical time for our country. Raise your voice. Demand to be heard. Put government back in its place as the servants of the people.
