Being Mean To Nazis

Remember when Michelle Obama said, “When they go low, we go high?” Yeah, that doesn’t apply anymore. Bernie Sanders, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, and Tim Walz are filling auditoriums and they’re not bothering to be nice. People don’t want them to be nice. In fact, just as many auditoriums are filled with irate constituents who are fed up with their congressional representatives. Republicans are being booed for supporting the President. Democrats are being booed for their lack of a spine. Politeness has fallen by the wayside, and that response is totally appropriate given that the Idiot in Chief is quickly dismantling every form of democracy he can get his pudgy little orange hands on.

Okay, so maybe we’re editorializing a bit here. Uhmm… no, just checked, those are all facts. We are living in one of the most surreal moments in time and everything that used to be forbidden in public relationships now seems to be acceptable. Except for having sex with gophers. Don’t do that.

When we saw someone ask a question, “Is it really acceptable (to you) to accost anyone that is a fan of [Punk] or even Conservatism?” our first response was laughter. Apparently, this person is living under some GOP-provided rock. We were curious, though, as to how people might respond. Here are some of our favorite answers.

“Fuck maga Nazis”

“I’m not going to lose sleep about it or listen to crocodile tears from the right. I grew up in conservative households, in conservative towns. Even when these people are winning in every conceivable measure, they refuse to shut the fuck up about how everybody hates them and they are the victims. I am serious. Agree with everything they say and they will just find something else to bitch about. God forbid some people hold a mirror and annoy them back.”

“This is not left-wing vs. conservatism – this is a fascist takeover, the total destruction of our democracy. Quit pretending this is business as usual. Quit trying to pretend there is something wrong with people who are angry about this.”

“It’s all about the social contract. If I say something is blue and you say it’s red, then we have a disagreement. If I say something is blue and you say (by trying to pass laws of enforcement) that I shouldn’t be allowed to express an opinion, or worse yet, that I shouldn’t exist… You’ve broken the contract and I’m no longer bound by its restraints.”

“We have so few tools to fight back what is happening. In theory, we could rely on our congressmen but the horrors of this administration are being enabled by both sides. Our only non-violent solution is to ensure they know no peace. Harass, yell, confront, and make them live with consequences. Make their life more miserable, more negative than whatever positive they gain by conforming. And, to be clear, this is no longer conservatism and hasn’t been for a long time. It doesn’t aim to restrict government. It doesn’t reign in spending. It doesn’t help its people. This is greed, this is malice, this is evil, this is fascism, this is Nazism, and it’s a lot more. To call it Conservatism is to thinly try to hide who you are like a coward.”

“Who gives a fuck what’s acceptable? The only question that’s left is what are you going to do to stop Trump from turning your country into shit?”

“Yes. I have ZERO sympathy for conservatives. I have nothing left but resentment and spite. Not only that? But, if I did know someone who accosted a conservative? I would support that person as best I can, and will take their secret to my grave. I know which side I stand on. Fuck conservatives. And fuck anyone who offers sympathy for conservatives. I will not fraternize with the enemy.”

“MAGA are Criminals who are part of a cult, and they deserve to be treated as any other Bigot is treated as that is exactly what they are. They do not deserve respect for they give NONE. They do not deserve dignity for all they have done is take away the dignity of those they hate. They do not even deserve the freedom to live in this country, and if it were up to me, every single MAGA would be banished from society FOREVER. No longer can MAGA walk the earth proud. Wherever MAGA Goes ( that isn’t America), they should feel great fear, because when you are no longer at home where you have your daddy Punk to protect you from the consequences of your actions. And if you break the law anywere else, you will be punished to the full extent of the law.”

Out of nearly 200 replies, only one person argued in favor of civility and they did so poorly. There is absolutely no reason to behave civilly toward people who actively support incivility. Truth be told, placating bad actions only results in more bad actions.

The Paradox of Tolerance states that the society that extends tolerance toward those who are intolerant risks enabling the domination of and subjugation by that intolerance (Karl Hopper, 1945). In other words, if we don’t stand up and say something, or do something in the face of evil, the evil takes over. Placating evil is never an appropriate solution.

Some may object, “But evil is being done by a set group of people, not every Republican in the country. Is targeting the random person really fair?”

Fuck yes. Who do you think elected that ‘set group of people’ and allowed them, encouraged them, and enabled them to come to power? The fact is that none of us are going to get close enough to the President or anyone else in the administration to give them the lashing they deserve. To bring down this Empire of Evil, one must destroy the foundation that supports it.

By destroy, we mean completely dishearten, discourage, berate, shame, annoy, and frustrate every last one of them. If anything, they make it easy to identify the losers by wearing those stupid red hats. We have absolutely no social obligation to be polite, even to members of our own family. Light ’em up.

Does this make for an aggressive and potentially dangerous society? Yes. But as Punk himself is fond of saying, it will only hurt for a little bit. The other option is to behave nicely and spend the rest of our lives in complete slavery to the 1%. If we don’t resist, they won’t stop until we’re all wearing chains.

So, go ahead and confront that jackass standing in line in front of you. Accost the person who is making vile comments in public. Vandalize Tesla dealerships. Make life unbearable until their spirit breaks. Only then do we have any chance of restoring our democracy.

We can be nice when they’re not actively trying to deport half of us.
